YUKO MUKAI

DESIGNER | ROKUBUEN

INFLUENCE OF KANSAI YAMAMOTO

Growing up with a mother who worked in fashion, Yuko Mukai developed an early interest in clothing and design.

After graduating from Ritsumeikan University, she studied fashion at Osaka Mode Gakuen. Inspired by a lecture given by Kansai Yamamoto, she moved to Tokyo after graduation and studied under him for four years.

Yamamoto's bold creativity and unconventional interpretation of Japanese culture became a lasting foundation for her approach to fashion.

HERITAGE & CRAFTSMANSHIP

Mukai finds beauty in the strength, wisdom and cultural traditions expressed through Japanese festival garments.

Her interests extend to festivals and traditional clothing from around the world. She values the cultural stories behind textiles, patterns and garments, as well as the skills of artisans who preserve traditional craftsmanship.

Through hand-finished details and experimental treatments, she explores new ways to express the character and beauty of materials.

STREET CULTURE & EXPRESSION

Influenced by the hip-hop, dance and street culture of the 2000s, Mukai embraces freedom of expression, individuality and movement.

Her creative approach brings together the energy of street culture and the richness of traditional craftsmanship.

Rather than following short-lived trends, she values clothing that respects cultural heritage and can be treasured for years.
